Motivational Interviewing + Follow-Up Training

This workshop focuses on using motivational interviewing (MI) techniques to support survivors of violence in exploring personal goals and enhancing their sense of agency.

Participants will learn the basic concepts related to Motivational Interviewing: Empowerment, compassion, partnership, acceptance. Participants will also practice the four basic skills of MI: Open ended questioning, affirming, reflective listening, and summarizing.

Through hands-on exercises and role-play scenarios, attendees will practice skills to help clients find their inner strengths and take steps toward healing. By the end, participants will be equipped with tools to apply MI in a trauma-sensitive manner, tailored specifically to the needs of survivors.

Various studies show that MI skills erode within a month or two of a standard workshop when there is an absence of coaching or follow up.

With the help of a 90-minute follow up session, learners will have the chance to refresh their knowledge of MI, discuss the challenges they have already faced with their own MI practice, and sharpen their skills with practice exercises.
